Education and Training

Films are invaluable for training and education – they promote discussion, explore issues and stimulate emotions.

We have full compliant insurance and enhanced disclosure certificates so can work with all ages.

A 3-day Training Package

We are currently working on a three film series for Sam Warner, a high profile Manchester based psychologist. The course is aimed at teaching mental health professionals how to work with Survivors.

A 1-year School Language Programme

We are also working with a Swiss publisher - Lehrmittelverlag des Kantons Zurich producing a 13-part series of films as part of a language learning manual featuring schools in London and Wales, focusing on their culture and use of language.

A Teaching Tool

Our work with Values Into Action, in producing a 20-minute fiction involved working closely with people with learning difficulties. The film was scripted in a series of workshops and the film explains to workers and Service Users the new Mental Capacity Act.

Inspirational Filmworks

In 2002 Oxleas NHS Trust asked us to devise and deliver a film school to fifteen of its mental health service users The result is Inspirational Filmworks, an award winning User-led cooperative that has so far produced four films screened on the Community Channel and been commissioned by The Trust to produce staff training films. This is an ongoing project, providing continuous support and training. We will soon be launching www.inspired-stories.tv - an internet television channel to broadcast Inspirational Filmwork's and other User filmmaker's work. This is a social enterprise model and will encourage other Users to be empowered through making films.

Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities Parenting Programme

In 2005, we worked with the Race Equality Foundation and taught camera skills to parents attending parenting courses in Manchester, Bradford, Liverpool and London. The parents then filmed themselves during the course. We collected all the material filmed and edited two films, one a 20-minute film shown at REF's AGM in 2006 and another a 35 minute film for training.

We are presently engaged by REF on a youth film project.

Quotes from clients

The result is beyond what I would ever have expected and I am certain the film will not only be very educational but also extremely interesting to Swiss school students.

Flexible Films made it their business to find out exactly what we wanted. When you make a film for language teaching, you need a very exact text, and they let us intervene much more than I think they would normally do. They were also extremely good with the pupils – put them at their ease, made them feel important, and coaxed great performances out of them. And they took enormous care to get exactly what they – and we – wanted.

Flexible Films worked with us in producing experiential films for our training package. They had some exciting ways of using film to allow workshop participants to connect with key emotional issues. They were insightful and also came up with some innovative ideas. Participants have fed back that the films are a crucial part of the training day.
